Swimmers develop a bent arm recovery in freestyle, and a continuous arm recovery in backstroke over a distance of 12-25m. Swimmers also learn to perform breaststroke.
The Junior Squad is an introductory squad. Swimmers learn squad swimming skills such as turns, how to read the pace clock, rules and etiquette of squad training, and continue to refine the four competitive strokes, including learning butterfly over 12-25m. With a strong focus on maintaining technique in addition to increasing fitness, this introductory squad aims to provide swimmers with a sound basis in skills for either a competitive or recreational swimming pathway with UWA or its affiliated aquatic clubs.
Swimmers become proficient at bubbles, breathing and kicking on their front and back over distances of 7-12m. Swimmers are also introduced to freestyle and backstroke technique.
For children aged 4 years and above. Swimmers develop water confidence, floating, bubbles, breathing and kicking over distances of 5-7m. Learning is through structured play and a teacher is always in the water.
For BCW swimmers aged 6 years and above. Swimmers develop water confidence, floating, bubbles, breathing and kicking over distances of 5-7m. A teacher is always in the water.
For BP/SBP swimmers aged 8 years and above. Swimmers refine their freestyle and backstroke technique, developing technique and control to swim distances of 12m without the use of floatation aids.
For P swimmers aged 9 years and above. Swimmers further refine their freestyle and backstroke without the use of floatation aids, and learn to breathe to the non-preferred side in freestyle. Swimmers also learn the breaststroke kick.
For swimmers aged 13 years and above. Swimmers follow an individualised program to target their own strengths, weaknesses and swimming goals, developing effective freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke. Skills such as tumble turns and dives are also consolidated to allow for transition into the UWA recreational and fitness pathway.
Swimmers refine their freestyle and backstroke technique with the use of floatation aids, developing technique and control over distances of 12m.
For BC swimmers aged 7 years and above. Swimmers become proficient at bubbles, breathing and kicking on their front and back over distances of 7-12m. Swimmers are also introduced to freestyle and backstroke technique.
Swimmers continue to develop competitive strokes, swimming multiple 25 lengths of freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke, with rest. Swimmers also learn competitive skills such as tumble turns, racing dives and dolphin kick. Swimmers are promoted from Advanced into the Pre Squad.
Swimmers further refine their freestyle and backstroke without the use of floatation aids, and learn to breathe to the non-preferred side in freestyle. Swimmers also learn the breaststroke kick.
For PA/A swimmers aged 10 years and above. Swimmers develop a bent arm recovery in freestyle, a continuous arm recovery in backstroke, and learn to perform breaststroke, over a distance of 12-25m. Competitive skills such as tumble turns, racing dives and dolphin kick are introduced. Swimmers are promoted from OS2 PA/A into the Pre Squad.
