(30 minutes, maximum 4 students) - This level is for non-swimmers aged 3 - 8 years old. Students will learn to independently float with breath control. This level does not require an assessment prior to booking.
(45 minutes, Maximum 8 Gymnasts) - Junior Gym is a program aimed at children aged 3 to 5 years. Children do not require a parent or
guardian in these classes. Children are introduced to the concept of a structured class and learning basic gymnastics principles. The emphasis is on having a fun and productive class. Children get the opportunity to develop all the basic gymnastics motor movements in a safe and encouraging environment. This program is designed as a transitional step between Kindergym and Recreational Gymnastics. The children will get to learn and use all the apparatus in the gym. Skills are incorporated within the theme of each week’s lesson.
(30 minutes, Maximum 8 students) - Fairy Penguin is for babies from 6 months - 18 months of age. The class involves songs and games used to create a happy learning environment.
(30 minutes, Maximum 8 students) - Emperor Penguin is for babies from 18 - 24 months of age. Babies can either progress into this class from Fairy Penguin, or start in the program as an Emperor Penguin. This class is designed to facilitate a smooth transition from the Babies program to the Pre School program.
(45 minutes, 12 students) For 18 months - 3 years. Children learn about their surroundings and begin refining their gross motor skills. Coaches and parents work together in the class to facilitate lessons through themes, music, dance, and games.
(1 hour, Maximum 20 students) - Classes are structured to develop skills incorporating games, drills and passive demonstrations. As children build confidence and advance to new level belts, they will develop respect both for the teacher and fellow students by showing control, compassion and compliance. It's these attributes that can make martial arts students into role models and leaders in other aspects of their lives, including school and the community.
(30 minutes, Maximum 4 students) - Children in this class focus on having their basic propulsive kicking and arm skills extended, with a strong focus on perfecting body positions and streamline though the water. This level requires assessment prior to booking.
(30 minutes, maximum 6 students) - This class builds endurance for freestyle and backstroke. Breaststroke and butterfly timing is taught at this level. This level requires assessment prior to booking.
(60 minutes, Maximum 10 Gymnasts) - The Water level emphasis is building strength and flexibility; generally children will come from our Junior Gym program or have little or no experience in gymnastics. Children will be expected to be able to follow direction and be familiar with a class situation. Many of the basic fundamental skills in gymnastics are taught in the Water level, including entries to handstands and cartwheels, forward and backward rolls, correct landing techniques and basic trampoline skills. Water is divided into two streams - White and Blue. When children complete Water they will progress to Fire.
(60 minutes, Maximum 10 Gymnasts) - The Water level emphasis is building strength and flexibility; generally children will come from our Junior Gym program or have little or no experience in gymnastics. Children will be expected to be able to follow direction and be familiar with a class situation. Fire is our intermediate gymnastics class and is suitable to children who already have a basic grounding in gymnastics. This level will emphasize building a higher level of strength, particularly core strength and aims to reinforce good technique in preparation for more advanced skills. Gymnasts in Fire begin to advance and link skills learned in Water. Children in this level will learn holds and swings on bars, bridge kick-overs, handstands on the low beam and somersaults into the foam pit. Fire is divided into two streams - Yellow and Red.
(60 minutes, Maximum 8-14 students, 25 metre laps) - Swimmers will be
asked to attend two sessions per week in order to help them develop greater proficiency in the four competitive strokes (Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Freestyle). Swimmers will be introduced to basic training skills and concepts such as cycles and the use of the pace clock.
(60 minutes, Maximum 10 Gymnasts) - Children in Fire generally will have had some experience in the fundamentals of gymnastics and will often have progressed from our Water level. Fire is our intermediate gymnastics class and is suitable to children who already have a basic grounding in gymnastics. (45 minutes, maximum 7 students) - Intermediate class designed to provide stroke correction for Freestyle and Backstroke and build confidence in Breaststroke and Butterfly.
(30 minutes, Maximum 5 students) - Learning overarm freestyle is a key component of
this class as well as kicking on the back. This level requires assessment prior to booking.
(30 minutes, Maximum 6 students, 12 metre laps) - This class builds on the skills learnt in the learn to swim program by refining freestyle and backstroke. Breaststroke kick and butterfly is taught at this level. This level requires assessment prior to booking.
(120 minutes, 20 Participants) - Macquarie University also offers two (2) hour Gymnastics classes to adults on Tuesday and Thursday nights (members can choose to come to either or both). The class caters for all levels of ability, and the program varies from individual to individual based on their goals, but generally includes strength, flexibility, gymnastics, acrobatics, fitness and parkour elements.
(45 minutes, Maximum 8 students, 25 metre laps) - Swimmers will learn and refine
the four competitive strokes (Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Freestyle), in addition to developing critical skills such as the streamline, underwater kicking, competitive turns, finishes, and dives. Students will require a set of fins for this level and above. Please note - Tuesday 5pm and 5.45pm and Thursday 5pm Mini Squad classes will be held in the 25m indoor heated pool.
(30 minutes, Maximum 4 students) - This class will teach children water confidence, submersion, and movement in water. Children must independent in the water. This level requires assessment prior to booking.
(30 minutes, Maximum 5 students) - Freestyle with bilateral breathing is taught at this
level. Backstroke is also an important part of this class. This level requires assessment prior to booking.
(60 minutes, Maximum 10 Gymnasts) - Mini Trickstar is for boys aged 5-10 who are looking to increase their fitness and learn new skills. The program covers Gymnastics skills but has a distinct Acrobatics and Tumbling flavor. Children are required to attend a weekly 60 minute lesson, however children are welcome to attend extra lessons per week at an added cost to encourage progression and skill acquisition. This class is invitation only, and generally children in this program are selected from our Water and Fire levels.
(30 minutes, Maximum 4 students) - The aim for this level is to gain water confidence and for students who swim independently with good breath control. Safety, floating, propulsive kicking and arm skills are also introduced within this level. This level requires assessment prior to booking.
(45 minutes, Maximum 8 students) - This level is for students aged 12 - 17 years old and progresses from Teen Intermediate. Endurance in freestyle and backstroke is developed, as well as correct starts. Breaststroke timing including breathing is taught. A strong butterfly kick is further developed. Dives and tumble turns are also taught. This level requires assessment prior to booking.
(120 minutes, Maximum 10 Gymnasts) - Air is our skill development gymnastics class and is appropriate for advanced children who don't want to be competitive gymnasts. Children frequently will have had formal gymnastics experience and will often have progressed from our Fire level. Air introduces jumps, handstands and cartwheels to the beam and children within Air will start work on back-flips and front handsprings. Within this level, proper
technique is stressed in a more serious tone. Air is divided into two streams - Pink and Purple with children who complete Air progressing to Land.
(120 minutes, Maximum 10 Gymnasts) - Air is our skill development gymnastics class and is appropriate for advanced children who don't want to be competitive gymnasts. Children frequently will have had formal gymnastics experience and will often have progressed from our Fire level. Air introduces jumps, handstands and cartwheels to the beam and children within Air will start work on back-flips and front handsprings. (45 minutes, Maximum 10 Gymnastics and Parents/Guardians) - Play Gym is designed for children from 18 months to 3 years of age. This class is designed to have the parent/guardian with the child throughout the lesson. The goal and intention of this class is to teach the children about their surroundings, feeling comfortable in unique settings, developing key gross motor skills and building confidence. Specific aspects of the class will include locomotive activity, concepts of landings, springing, statics, swinging and rotation. Our Play Gym instructors act as a facilitator so the
child’s parent/ guardian can share in the learning process. We use music and dance and have a strong emphasis on providing a fun and stimulating experience for the child and the parent/guardian.
(120 minutes, 12 students) Classes are designed for teenagers who want to participate in gymnastics whether they have prior experience or not. Developing flexibility, strength and gymnastics-based skills while meeting new people.
(30 minutes, Maximum 4 students) - Children in this class are taught swimming principles such as safety, body position, floatation, and movement through water. Swimming at this level is an under arm stroke that resembles paddling and kicking. This level requires assessment prior to booking.
(30 minutes, 8 Participants) - 2.5 years old - 3.5 years old. Available Monday to Friday mornings, Saturday all day and Sunday morning. Class taught with the assistance of a parent/guardian in the water Building confidence in the pool through water familiarisation. Working toward swimming independently. Establishing correct swimming body position and breath control. This level requires assessment prior to booking.
(120 minutes, Maximum 10 Gymnasts) - Trickstar is a mixed gender class for children above the age of 10 who are wishing to pick up some new skills and improve their fitness, strength and flexibility. This class is open to all children within the appropriate age range.
